Marx writes "Ah, accronyms... they say so much without really saying anything at all. Huh, kinda sounds like my ex-girlfriends... anyway! Today we're taking a look at the direction BF2 is heading, where BF2142 MAY be heading, and the most direct competition to either... namely, Quake Wars.
First on the list: BF2 and the upcoming Point Of Existance 2 mod. This highly anticipated mod has been released for beta testing (finally!), and the news coming down the line is positive. Based on a fictional conflict between the Ukraine and Germany (to counterpoint the America-Russia conflict in the first POE), the mod revamps almost every aspect of BF2... weaponry, physics, graphics, the whole kit and kabutal. Reviews speak of weaponry that actually hits it's target (I know, I know... revolutionary thinking right there), and vehicles which are well balanced with defensive emplacements and equipment... so hopefully no more attack choppers capable of shrugging off tank rounds. A plethora of new maps (including winter maps, with new vehicle and character skins to boot), multiple ammunition types for tanks, player controlled artillery (BF:1942 and BF:V vets will know what I'm talking about... binoculars are included with some kits), and pick-up "upgrade" kits are all awaiting us in this new mod. Weighing in at over a gig and still with an unknown release date (hopefully falling somewhere between "Immediately" and "Real Soon"), POE2 looks like it may actually be worth the wait.
Perhaps not news any more, but a little tidbit from DICE for "BF Vets"... for those of us loyal (or silly) enough to stay with the franchise even after EA did a number on it. "As we promised in our last newsletter, DICE is pleased to announce the details surrounding the Veterans Program — our way to reward loyal Battlefield 2 players who are planning to play Battlefield 2142. Players who have logged time with BF2 will be able to log onto the Battlefield website and reserve their Battlefield 2 name for Battlefield 2142 before lamers can squat on it. Veterans status will also provide players with several other items including the following: An exclusive war dance animation that you can use in-game to taunt/pwn other players, an in-game notification icon that lets other players know that you had a tour of duty in Battlefield 2, an instant promotion that will be available the first time you log onto the game. This will let you choose from several weapons and gadgets right off the bat—from a Herzog shotgun attachment to your assault rifle to a V5 EMP grenade available to the support class…and more." Awful nice sounding... of course, if it WORKS is a matter entirely up for debate.
Lastly, Quake Wars: Enemy Territory... sadly, no news on this front (ha! I made a joke there...). Reports still point to the first quarter of 2007 for a release date... with the death of E3, perhaps sooner (since the development team won't be wastin' time trying to impress the media with anything other than actual "gameplay"... what a concept!). Of course, Activision's history with release dates is about as spotless as EA's... but hey, a guy can dream. "

| Top Three BF2 Mods... an Update. |
|
Marx writes "Time again to delve into the depths of the modification community and see if anything is shiny. First up, "Project Reality", being built by the nice boys over at http://www.realitymod.com/An ambitious attempt to bring more realism into an extremely arcade-style game, PR has recently added more toys to their expanding arsnal of death-dealing devices. The Chinese have gained the PF-89, an anti-tank rocket, while the British bombers have a total of 5 new forms of explosive ordance to rain over their enemies. The premise sounds good, the graphics look purty, and while its probably pointless to hold your breath, there is some hope that these guys may bring back that elusive balance of realistic physics and addictive gameplay that made us all love BFV and 1942 so much. Next, "Brickfield 2", a likely drug-induced modification which is Lego-inspired. Sadly, the website is down... we can only hope that this is a temporary situation, and not indicitive of the team throwing in the coloured blocks. Check it out yourself at http://www.brickfield-mod.com/On a more promising front, "Operation Peacekeeper", about the fictional conflict between the German and Serbian forces in Kosovo, seems to be steaming ahead nicely. They've recently added the J-22 "Eagle" jet to the Serbian forces, and while there are no comments on a final release date (since when have modders been that organized?), at least their site is still up at http://www.opkmod.com/. Lastly, no news from POE2. Our breath may be baited, but we'll simply have to wait. "

| EB USA Now Taking BF2142 Pre-Orders! |
|
Marx writes "BF2142 isn't comin' out until October, so don't get your hopes up just yet... and we all know how fluid those release-dates can be. However, with all that aside, EB Games is now accepting Pre-orders of BF2142... those of you willing to slap down your hard earned cash on yet another EA-influenced war simulator will be rewarded with a "BF2142-branded USB 2.0 Flash Drive, EB Games exclusive 'Rank Up', and $40 worth of mail-in rebates for gaming keyboards, laser mouse and gaming headsets."
This offer may not be available in Canada (EB is tricky that way), and doesn't ensure the game will be released on time. However, for those of you who were going to buy it anyway... now you have a bit of incentive from the soulless corporate lackeys at EA to do so! "

Marx writes "Well, today is officially the first Mod-day in my new position as Chief News Editor and Correspondant (I love the fact my title gets longer every time I write one of these things... my goal is to reach a full paragraph by the end of July!). I was hoping to release some happy news about PoE2 (that's Point of Existance, for those who aren't familiar with their earlier iteration)... sadly, no news on that front. They're still pluggin' away at it, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
However, the gentlemen at jarHedz have released a few new screen shots and a bit of news regarding their BF2 love-child... US Intervention (USI, centered on the Persian Gulf War) has recently added the ZPU-4 (quad-barrel anti-aircraft cannon... for those of us who realize how useless the missiles are), and a nifty little smoke grenade that can be locked-on by helicopters and bombers (must... resist... urge... "Airstrike on MY POSITION!"... damnit, I tried). Also, a few shots have been released of their new map, "Operation Market Square".
Lastly, the boyz have released an open-call for Texture Artists (am I the only one that thinks that sounds dirty?), Coders, Level Designers and play-testers. I think we all know how hard doin' this sorta stuff can be (especially for free), so if anyone wants to lend a hand, head on over to their site... here: http://usi.jarhedz.com
Join us again next Mod-day (which, hopefully, won't be a day late!) when we'll take another look at PoE2... and realize that it still won't be out yet! "

Marx writes "After months of careful planning, painstaking labour and intensive scrutiny, a new Chief News Editor for the CCC webpage has been selected.
”We received hundreds… well, dozens… at least one application for the position” says CCC co-founder Eggs. “We needed somebody responsible, with a firm grasp of the English language and a deep understanding of both CCC and Battlefield 2. Unfortunately, since nobody like that applied... our final decision was made by the fact Marx will probably do less damage to our team behind a type-writer than he would anywhere else. We expect friendly-fire incidents to take the largest dive since Tequila-Joe stopped hitting the sauce.”
“This is a great honour…” Marx said over the phone, breathlessly. “And I can only hope that I can do the job as well as it deserves! Now, we haven’t discussed my pay-raise yet, but I know that it will probably be substantial!”
When asked for their opinions on the new appointment, CCC opinion varies wildly. One member, asking to remain anonymous, commented that it was, quote “… simply more proof that the media is run by those left-wing Communist bastards…” and shook his fist indiscriminately. However, the large majority of the squad’s opinion could be summed up by the words of co-founder Crazyfingers: “We have a News Editor? "

| Daylight Savings and our Site |
|
Just a heads up, if any of you are seeing wrong times listed on the forums and such since Daylight Savings, just go into your Profile from the top of the forums and change your timezone to account for the Daylight Savings change. Unfortunatly our site doesn't support Daylight Savings, for some strange reason.
In other news, I'd like to take this chance to thank all of our regular players and site visitors. We've cleared 200,000 site views and have over 250 forum members, all in the past four months! According to ServerSpy (click me) we are ranked #7 in the entire world for our server activity and have been seeing upwards of 200 players per hour! And folks try to say BFV is dead..PFFT! Anywho, I shall now return you to your regularly scheduled ARCADE ADDICTION. See you all on the battlefield!
